The Mica tape is prepared with selected natural mica material or synthetic compound (paper) and a glass fibre cloth (tape) jointed by a
proper silicone binder.
The natural mica tape can be cleaved to obtain thin flakes of constant thickness.
The main Mica Tape types are the
following two::
• PHEOS : Phlogopite
mica type
Phlogopite is a chemical composition of Potassium (K) and Magnesium (Mg) KMg3 (Al Si3 O10)
• MUSEOS : Muscovite mica type
Muscovite is a chemical composition of Potassium (K) and
Aluminium (Al) KAl2 (Al Si3 O10)
The Synthetic Mica Tape is the following one:
• SYNEOS : Synthetic mica tape.
Synthetic Mica tape is a synthetic compound of pure Silicon dioxide (Sio2)
with excellent resistance at high temperature (better than
the two previous types).
On request EOS 3 srl can supply an other type of Mica Tape:
• MUSEOS CAL : Calcined
Muscovite Mica Tape.
The Natural Muscovite is calcined before the junction with the glass cloth tape.
Properties
PHEOS, MUSEOS, SYNEOS AND MUSEOS CAL mica
tapes have an excellent fire resistance and warrant a very
good electrical property at high temperature.
Also the silicon binder, when exposed to a flame, gradually
turns to silicon dioxide, that has a good insulation
property at high temperature.
Take note of the special high value of the EOS 3 srl mica
tape Breakdown Voltage.
Characteristics
Appearance: no alien material. No split, scare and hole. No
broken and folded. No patched place
Tape is without connections and paper with max 3 connections.
Dimensions: Width 6 – 880 (mm.). Length: 600 mt. up to 1200 mt.
Coil dimension suggested: diam. 300 mm. – 400 mm.
Inner diameter: 76 mm .

Operating temperature
The max operating temperature suggested is 700 - 800 °C.
More detailed explanations are reported in “Operating Temperature”.
The breakdown voltage of MUSEOS CAL is the highest one and it is due to the calcination traitment.
Applications
PHEOS, MUSEOS, SYNEOS and MUSEOS CAL
sMica tape are used for power and control cables, for
instrumentation and signalling cables, which must have high
fire resistance.
Are also used in fibre optic fire resistant cables.
The EOS 3 srl mica tape is suitable to produce electrical
and fibre optic cable according to the following Norms::
IEC 60331 - DIN 4102 - BS6387CWZ - NFC32-070 – ecc.
Operating temperature
The max operating temperature reported for each kind of EOS 3 BEST ALLOY mica tapes is a characteristic of the components but not to
confuse with the max operating working temperature in a fire emergency.
The cable can work for a fixed time in a fire emergency condition at an higher temperature than the max operating reported temperature
and this is also due to the manufacture.
The producers of finished cable can reach the best quality of fire resistant cable using a proper manufacture with each type of EOS 3 BEST
ALLOY mica tapes.
They can choose the most economic solution to overcome the required tests by the above mentioned norms.
Dimension
The standard thickness of mica tape are 0.11 mm. – 0.13 mm. – 0.15 mm. ( as reported in the characteristics of each type ).
On customer
request EOS 3 srl can supply different thickness.
